Our Story

Built in 1900.
Still Making History.

From the turn of the century to today, Salem's Historic Grand has been a gathering place for culture, community, and commerce in the heart of Downtown Salem.

The Beginning

A New Century,
A New Stage.

Built in 1900 at the dawn of the twentieth century, Salem's Historic Grand was conceived as a cultural anchor for Oregon's growing capital city. The building was designed to serve as both a grand performance hall and a commercial hub — a vision that has proven remarkably durable.

From the very beginning, the Grand drew performers, politicians, and ordinary Oregonians alike through its doors. Located directly across from the Marion County Courthouse, the building occupied — and still occupies — the geographic and civic center of downtown Salem.

Community.

Through the Depression, the war years, and the post-war boom, the Grand adapted. The theatre continued to host performances while the upper floors housed offices, civic organizations, and the Lodge Room — a space that became a cornerstone for fraternal and community gatherings.

The building survived the dramatic changes that reshaped many downtown cores in the mid-twentieth century, in part because it had always been more than just a single-use venue. Its layered programming gave it resilience that more specialized buildings lacked.

The Grand Today

Restored. Revitalized.
Ready.

Today, Salem's Historic Grand operates as a fully functioning multi-use venue — hosting live events, corporate rentals, office tenants, retail businesses, and two beloved on-site restaurants. The building has been carefully maintained and restored to honor its original character while meeting the needs of modern events.

Under the stewardship of To The Ceiling Entertainment LLC and Cinjoe LLC, the Grand continues to evolve as one of Salem's most dynamic and loved institutions — more than just a theatre.

Our Mission

Salem's Historic Grand exists to be the most welcoming, versatile, and historically significant gathering place in the Willamette Valley. We believe that historic buildings aren't museums — they're living spaces that should work harder than ever.

Whether we're hosting a sold-out concert, a wedding, a community fundraiser, or a Monday morning board meeting, the goal is the same: to provide an exceptional experience in a space that can't be replicated anywhere else.

Downtown Salem is our home. The Grand has been part of this community for 125 years, and we intend to be here for 125 more.
